Brief Introduction

	Sichuan, Shuangliu Middle School (SMS), founded in 1940,has been ratified as a National Level Model School as well as a Provincial Key School with a history of sixty-two years. The campus covers about 335,000 square meters, (165 square meters for the Senior High School and 170 square meters for the Junior High School) and presently has 82 classes. It has an enrollment of over 5,000 students and has a staff of more than 400. A famous Calligrapher Yu Youren inscribed the School’s name, Shuangliu Middle School, in 1949.

As early as the 1960’s SMS was ranked among the National Educational Advanced Units in China. In addition, SMS is well known throughout the Chengdu area for its efficient management of strictness and loving kindness for each student, remarkable teaching qualities and its garden like campus. Since 1993, the new generation of SMS has created an effective internal administrative system that possesses a modern philosophy of management and competitiveness. SMS has pushed into a new phase of advanced development through its inheritance of the glorious tradition and its implementation of modern educational and administrative theory, and reforms of its personnel management system. In achieving Provincial Key Middle School and National Model School status, SMS has constantly adopted newly developed scientific research methods and has formed this school’s administration conception------Human education should be extended to all school age children, taking care of all aspects of their development.

After having been ratified as a National Level Model School, SMS immediately worked out a fifteen-year blueprint and set new goals for the school to become a Model School characterized with prestigious, high teaching achievements, demonstrating its status of reform, the implementation of quality-oriented education and the promotion of modern education during the fifteen-year period. Currently, SMS takes the lead among the schools in the Chengdu area, thanks to its capable teachers, the modern teaching facilities and equipment that are competitive with those schools in the eastern part of China. Successively, the Provincial Educational Commission and the Municipal Educational Commission have commended SMS for ten years. SMS has been successfully granted the following titles: Sichuan Civilized Unit, Modern Moral School, National Archery Key School, A School for Sports Candidates, National Advanced Units for Mass Sports and A Base for Key Scientific Experiment by the Educational Department.

Furthermore, SMS has established close cooperation with Qinghua University, setting up a training base for Qinghua University candidates, and together they undertook the Sail training project. SMS accepts research and experiments for the key task elicitation and research teaching, assigned by the National Educational Department. In order to further basic education reform, and enhance quality-oriented education, SMS has voluntarily played a leading role in curriculum reform at provincial, municipal and county levels. Meanwhile, great importance has been attached to the development of students’ sports and arts cultivation. Owing to the popularization and improvement of sports and arts education, together with the brave exploration of new development, a bumper harvest has been achieved. Track and field teams, girls’ basketball teams, an Archery team, a Chufeng Chorus, song and dance ensembles, and a tradition orchestra, enjoy a growing reputation in Chengdu, Sichuan, even in China. SMS has annually set up international educational exchange and has cooperated with countries in the Americas, Europe and Australia. Moreover, SMS has achieved success in internationalization and has sent many students to study abroad, developing friendly ties with Deakin University in Australia and Hugo-Junkers-Gymnasium in Germany, which promotes the international exchange program between the Schools.
